Halloween aka All Hallows’ Eve is a celebration observed in a number of countries at the end of October, the eve of the Western Christian feast of All Hallows’ Day. It is “widely believed” that many Halloween traditions originated from the ancient Celtic harvest festival Samhain. Samhain and other such festival had pagan roots. Oktoberfest : American Tribute to German Style Beer Fest

From Oktoberfest to massive beer steins, Germany is renowned for its beer-drinking habits. In fact, it has the third highest beer consumption per capita in the world, according to Kirin Beer University Report. All of this beer drinking has led to the creation of some of the best styles on the planet, including hefeweizen and märzen.

In recent years, Americans have done an awesome job replicating and putting their own spin on these German classics. Without further ado, join us right here at Tysons Biergarten as we showcase German Style beers from your favorite American Craft Breweries. Thats right, we have contacted 25+ American craft breweries and have asked them to send us their “Best of the best” German-style-American-influenced beer for our “American Tribute to German Style Beer Festival. Beer is one of the world’s oldest prepared beverages, possibly dating back to the early Neolithic or 9500 BC, when cereal was first farmed. Beer was spread through Europe by Germanic and Celtic tribes as far back as 3000 BC, and it was mainly brewed on a domestic scale. The product that the early Europeans drank might not be recognised as beer by most people today. Alongside the basic starch source, the early European beers might contain fruits, honey, numerous types of plants, spices and other substances such as narcotic herbs. What they did not contain was hops, as that was a later addition, first mentioned in Europe around 822 by a Carolingian Abbot and again in 1067 by Abbess Hildegard of Bingen.

In 1516, William IV, Duke of Bavaria, adopted the Reinheitsgebot (purity law), perhaps the oldest food-quality regulation still in use in the 21st century, according to which the only allowed ingredients of beer are water, hops and barley-malt. Beer produced before the Industrial Revolution continued to be made and sold on a domestic scale, although by the 7th century AD, beer was also being produced and sold by European monasteries.

Beer would not be as delicious and as great as it is if it wasnt for its European influence! In fact the oldest still-operating brewery in the world (1040) is a brewery called Bayerische Staatsbrauerei Weihenstephan (Bavarian State Brewery Weihenstephan, i.e. it is owned by the State of Bavaria) and is proudly served here at Tysons Biergarten. Join us on Saturday October 1st as we showcase 25 top shelf beers from Germany, Belgium and Austria! Come meet representatives from each brewery, learn about the breweries, beers and take home some awesome gifts. Like always, our festivals will be filled with games, live music, contests and loads of prizes.

A seasonal beer is a beer that is typically brewed during or for a particular season, holiday or festival period. Many breweries and microbreweries produce seasonal beers. Seasonal beers may be produced when fresh ingredients are available during various seasons, per climatic conditions during the time of the year, and also as a tradition.Furthermore, seasonal beer is produced based upon seasons, holidays, festivals and events.

Autumn seasonal beers incorporate the use of spices such as cinnamon, pumpkin and nutmeg, which serves to associate the season with the beer’s flavor, or to create a “frame of reference unique to that season”. Pumpkin ale is often brewed as an autumn seasonal beer.

A harvest festival is an annual celebration that occurs around the time of the main harvest of a given region. Harvest festivals typically feature feasting, both family and public, with foods that are drawn from crops that come to maturity around the time of the festival. We here at Tysons Biergarten will have a wide variety of food and beer that incorporate the harvest.

Hops, Hops and more HOPS! Thats what our IPA Festival is all about. We have contacted over 25 breweries to send us thier best hoppiest beers! Thats right, we are going to have it all from double IPAs, Triple IPAs, barrel aged IPAs, fruited IPAs, basically everything and anything showcasing hops that will get hop lovers like yourself excited so hop on over to Tysons Biergarten for our very first IPA festival! We will have over 50 different types of hoppy beers to try from a wide variety of breweries! Its gonna be the hoppiest festival to date!

★Single Hop – We brewed this beer with an experimental hop called 06277, a variety so new it hasn’t even been named yet. Light in color and body, this strong beer was designed to have a clean malt profile to showcase the hops used.

They are used primarily as a flavoring and stability agent in beer, to which they impart bitter, zesty, or citric flavours; though they are also used for various purposes in other beverages and herbal medicine. The hop plant is a vigorous, climbing, herbaceous perennial, usually trained to grow up strings in a field called a hopfield, hop garden, or hop yard when grown commercially. Many different varieties of hops are grown by farmers around the world, with different types being used for particular styles of beer. The United States is known all around the world for its high quaility of hops!

The first documented use of hops in beer is from the 9th century, though Hildegard of Bingen, 300 years later, is often cited as the earliest documented source. Before this period, brewers used “gruit”, composed of a wide variety of bitter herbs and flowers, including dandelion, burdock root, marigold, horehound (the old German name for horehound, Berghopfen, means “mountain hops”), ground ivy, and heather.

Hops are used extensively in brewing for their antibacterial effect that favors the activity of brewer’s yeast over less desirable microorganisms and for many purported benefits, including balancing the sweetness of the malt with bitterness, contributing a variety of desirable flavors and aromas. Historically, traditional herb combinations for beers were believed to have been abandoned when beers made with hops were noticed to be less prone to spoilage.
